2008.05.01 - Drools How To - Continued

This was definitely one of our best meetings to date, both presentations were excellent.

Larry Terrill gave perhaps one of the simplest, clearest, easy to understand presentations of how a modern rules engine works that I believe any of us had ever seen. We need to make him a fixture here, very helpful.

6:30 - 6:45  Greetings and Social (no food)
6:45 - 7:30  Installing and getting everyone loaded up with Drools
7:30 - 8:00  Larry Terrill with an Introduction to Business Rules Execution
8:00 - 8:15  Break
8:15 - 9:00  Greg with an Introduction to Rule Based Systems and Drools
9:00 - 9:30  Q&A

If you don't know what the basics of externalizing if-then statements into a separate business rules engine is like at a basic level, this particular meeting might be the one for you because it's at an introductory level.

Sogeti is generously hosting our meeting.  They are located at 222 West Las Colinas Blvd, Irving, Texas 75039. We will be in the 1st floor conference room. Visitor parking is on the south side of the towers on the west bound service road from O'Connor/114, it is the East tower.

A big thank you to Greg and Larry for sharing their code and presentations with us.

Greg has made the Monkeys and Bananas code available at http://gregcode.org/monkey.html.

This is a PDF of the presentation Larry made on 5/1/2008 at the Dallas Rules User Group. http://dallasrulesgroup.org/files/PrinciplesOfBusinessRules.pdf.

Attached is the source code (java code and rules) for the example in the presentation. The example was executed using Drools V4.0.4, but should work with any current version of Drools.
